Ruth Marie's Story

Life Hello to all my old classmates and school aquaintances! Will do this as briefly as possible! 1965 - Married Larry Munnion - was working at the then Society for Crippled Children & Adults. Lived in Wpg.'s North End from '65 to '70. 1966 and 1968 - son Craig and daughter Karen were born. 1970 - moved to Wpg.'s West End and lived there til 1979. 1970 - my brother Ken Young was injured and seriously brain damaged. 1971 - my best friend Margaret Johnson died of a brain haemhorrage. 1979 - moved to Saskatoon, SK til '81 1981 - moved back to Wpg. - Charleswood this time! 1986 - Larry died of first ever heart attack - no warning. He was 44 years old. 1987 - Moved to a condo in Winnipeg's Osborne Village. Was working for Clarke Transport as Office Mgr and Freight Claims Mgr. 1988 - Went to work for Bentall Property Mgmt - developers of the then brand new TD Centre at Portage and Main. 1991 - Married Bryan Newton - lived for 6 years in Bruce Mines, Ontario (just east of The Soo) - then from 1998-2002 in Sundown, Manitoba (south of Steinbach). During the Bruce Mines and Sundown years, bred, raised, and trained American Quarter Horses - learned to ride at age 45!! A wonderful experience. 2002 - Separated and moved into town of Vita, Manitoba - worked for three years at the local Veterinary Clinic - Loved it! - the best working years of my life. 2003 - My brother Ken Young died at age 53, 32 years after his brain injury confined him to a nursing home. His highschool sweetheart, Susan Schroeder (Curran) and I are like sisters to this day. 2003 - Divorce final, I moved out to the wilds of southwestern Saskatchewan with Ivan Wellwood, dairy farmer. Loved the farm, learn...Expand for more
ed to love cows!, even enjoyed the milking! March 2007 to present - On my own again, living in Herbert, SK. Worked at the local medical clinic for 6 years, casual, and have been fully retired since 2010. Herbert is 1/2 hour east of Swift Current, a wonderfully friendly, busy, and green prairie town. I love Saskatchewan in general, and Herbert in particular, and plan to be here a good long while. Misc. - Son Craig and wife Danielle are in Dryden, Ontario where he manages the 7-11 store. Grandson Stephen is 23, and granddaughter Kalaika (Hawaiian for Craig) is 12. Daughter Karen is divorced from Russell Young, son of high school friend Peggy Willis, and remarried very happily to Kim Lawrence (a Charleswood boy!). She has a 16 year old daughter Lauren. Karen is with Ceridian Canada in a senior Human Resources position - very much a career girl. Kim is with Britol Aerospace in Quality Control. Karen has been battling cancer for 4 years, and after 5 5 surgeries and 3 sessions of chemotherapy, is now cancer free. My amazing daughter. I love animals - and they love me. Dogs, cats, birds, horses, cows - and next winter, I plan to introduce myself to a dolphin or two :-)) If I could afford an acreage of my own, I would have dozens of every species; for now I have one dog, Rosie (Bichon-Maltese cross), one cat, Lacey, living with me. I am actively involved in the local music scene, playing the piano at church, and accompanying several singing groups, as well as playing occasionally with a small band. I am a born again Christian, a member of the Herbert Mennonite Brethren Church. God is good! Would love to hear from any and all of you that might remember me.
